Slovenian victory in Zakopane

Jurij Tepes, Robert Kranjec, Jernej Damian, and Peter Prevc took the first place in FIS World Cup Team competition in Zakopane. The second place went to Germany and as the third came the team from Austria. The Polish team came in the fourth place missing 6.3 points to the podium.

Fans gathered at the Wielka Krokiew Hill in Zakopane had a chance to watch a spectacular show as the Slovenians fought really hard to claim their win in the tournament in Zakopane. After the first round they were fourth behind the Germans, Austrians and Poles and Jerney Damjan, Jurij Tepes, Robert Kranjec and Peter Prevc after the first round were missing 8.4 points to the leading team. In the second part of the competition, great jumps by Prevc, (134,5m) and Damjan (131,5m) and much better than in the first round attempt of Jurij Tepes (128m) let them take the victory.

‘For us it was a great contest and we are really happy that we managed to win although after the first round we were in the fourth place ’ Damjan said after the competition, adding  ‘After a good summer season my beginning of the winter season wasn’t very good. I’m glad that I’m doing better and I hope  to keep on like that’

German athletes who were in the lead after the first round lost 11.7 points to the winners. Although Andreas Wank and Severin Freund got better results in the second round their teammates Freitag and Wellinger did worse, which decided about their second place. The Austrian team ended up third, mainly due to worse jumps in the second round by Manuel Poppinger  and the Four Hills Tournament winner Thomas Diethart. Although  the first one jumped 129m in the first round  but in the second one he landed on 114th meter. Diethart reached 13m in his first jump and 121m in the second one.

Polish team with Klemens Murańka,Dawid Kubacki, Jan Ziobro and Kamil Stoch completed the competition just behind the podium. From Poles Dawid Kubacki was the best in Saturday’s event, landing on 131st and 121st m. Kamil Stoch jumped well in the first round (132,5m) however his second jump was 6.5 m shorter. Klemens Murańka reached the distances of 118,5m and122.5m.Jan Ziobro jumped 126m and 126.5m.

In Saturday's individual tournament on Wielka Krokiew Hill eleven Polish athletes will take part . First round of the competition will start at 14:00.
