A TEAM COMPETITION FOR THE GERMANS. SATO WITH A HILL RECORD

In Saturday's FIS World Cup team competition at the Stanisław Marusarz Hill in Zakopane, the German team took the unquestionable victory. The team led by the former coach of Polish team, Stefan Horngacher, won by 40 points more than the second team from Norway. The Slovenians stood on the lowest step of the podium. The Poles finished in fifth place.

The competition was very exciting, and the rivalry in the second round was breathtaking. A total of 25,000 spectators on the hill and millions in front of the TV had the opportunity to watch many very long jumps of over 140 meters. But the "king of the game" was Yukiya Sato, who set a new hill record by flying 147 meters, improving last year's performance of David Kubacki by 3.5 meters! But that wasn't enough for the Japanese to reach the podium today, to which they missed 2.5 points.

In the Polish team, Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch did a great job on Saturday. The total score of this year's winner of the 4-Hills-Tournament (310.6 points) would give him a second place today, only 0.3 points behind German Stephan Leyhe. Stoch's notes would also put him in the lead. Unfortunately, Piotr Zyla (only sixth in his group in both rounds) and, rather as expected, Jakub Wolny performed far below the expectations.

Today, Wielka Krokiew was also the arena of an exceptional event, prepared by the team of Crowd Supporters, Mikee and DJ Ucho, who have been realizing the artistic setting of competitions in Zakopane for several years. In the ceremonial setting on stage, the long-time World Cup director Walter Hofer, who is retiring after the end of the season, "anointed" the new head of the FIS World Cup, Italian Sandro Pertile. The symbol of the "handover of power" was famous...  Austrian earband, which he symbolically put on the head of the new World Cup director.
