On the podium of the FIS World Cup Zakopane 2018 stood two Slovenian athletes and one ski jumper from Germany. 24-years-old Anze Semenic, for whom it was the first World Cup win, won in front of Andreas Wellinger and Peter Prevc.

Anze Semenic will remember about the individual competition in Zakopane for a long time because in the Polish winter capital he managed to win the World Cup event for the first time in his career. – I am very surprised about my place in today’s competition. I had some difficulties during the team event. Yesterday evening and today’s morning I thought a lot about how to improve my performance. Luckily for me, today everything went good for me – said Anze Semenic about his performance. He won the competition with the jumps of 134.5 and 137.5 meters of distance.

Winter Olympic Games are approaching.  What goal did Anze Semenic set for himself? – I need to jump far during the Olympics and then we will what will be my positions during the competitions. It will be a hard-to-achieve goal, but as a team we will try to stand on the podium in the team event – he said. – In my opinion six different teams have chances to fight for the medal. Each of them is going to do all its best. I think that the day-disposition and weather conditions will play an important role while the event – added Peter Prevc, Semenic’s teammate who ended the competition at 3rd place with jumps of 131 and 134 meters.

Andreas Wellinger could stand at the second step of the podium thanks to the amazing jump in the final round. He was only 9th in the first round. – Second round of the event was really good for me. I was the second and it makes me happy, because it was a high-level competition. The next weekend is very special for the whole German team because the competition takes place in Willingen – said Wellinger praising the event in Zakopane – Zakopane is a special place for me. The atmosphere was amazing. Last year as team we won the competition and then I stood at the second step of the podium in the individual one. This time I managed to be on the podium again during the weekend. It’s incredible.
