After the first serie of Sunday's competition there was no Polish athletes on top positions, although in the top ten there were up to four - Kamil Stoch, Piotr Zyla, Dawid Kubacki and Jan Ziobro. They were respectively placed from 6. to 9. After the first attempt the best was Richard Freitag, and the second was his compatriot - Andreas Wellinger. In total, in the "top 10" of the first round Germany, like Poland, had four representatives.
The lack of place on the podium for Polish athletes certainly did not fulfill expectations of fans, and they all have been waiting for the excitement in the next round of jumps. The second serie was much better for them and World Cup leader jumped very well in spite of his rivals and bad conditions. In the second attempt Stoch jumped in the worst conditions much better then others in the top. He managed to achieve distance of 131 meters. Very good notes and high compensation for wind allowed him move up rates, and provided the final triumph. Piotr Zyla (6th place - 132.5 and 128 m) and Dawid Kubacki (8th place – 129.5 and 128.5m) ended up also with good results.
-Three of our athletes in ‘top ten’, all six in the final serie – this is for us a beautiful result. The same time today’s competition was at a very high level, there were a lot of long jumps in quite difficult conditions. The wind was almost all the time in the back, but once he gained strength, once it was weaker . That is why these not so long jumps gave really good places - sums up the individual World Cup competition in Zakopane Kamil Stoch. - I am very happy with work I made today. I believe that I had three good jumps. The third was by far the best – adds FIS Ski Jumping World Cup leader.
A summary of the amazing atmosphere and the success of the Polish athletes in Zakopane was a Polish anthem sung a capella by a set of twenty-three thousand fans gathered on Wielka Krokiew Hill. For Zakopane it was another success, what was underlined by results of representatives of Poland. Competition on Sunday was watched by President of Poland - Andrzej Duda, who once again in a short time had the opportunity to present the award for the victory of the idol of Polish ski jumping fans.
